Board approves principal hire and several summer capital contracts in unanimous votes

In a consent vote, the board approved the recommendation to hire Dr. Andrew Young as principal of Vernon Hills High School; the appointment was listed as part of the employment items on the consent agenda and passed with an all-aye roll call.
The board also approved the following contracts and expenditures (motions and recorded tallies appear below): • Libertyville High School tennis-court repair and maintenance: American Seal Coating, $84,400 (plus design/inspection cost that brings the project estimate to roughly $90,000); motion moved by Lisa Hessel and seconded by Cara Drumke; roll call recorded all ayes. • Vernon Hills High School tennis-court repair and maintenance: American Seal Coating, $187,000; motion moved by Don Carmichael and seconded by Lisa Hessel; roll call recorded all ayes. • Libertyville High School HVAC equipment replacement: Trane via OMNIA cooperative pricing, $1,184,562; motion moved by John Key and seconded by Don Carmichael; roll call recorded all ayes. • Vernon Hills High School pool spectator carpeting replacement: Libertyville Tile via Sourcewell cooperative pricing, $51,618; motion moved by Don Carmichael and seconded by Lisa Hessel; roll call recorded all ayes.
The board also completed its semiannual review of closed-session minutes and adopted updates to several board policies (second reading and adoption). Those procedural and policy votes passed on roll calls recorded in the meeting transcript.
Each motion was recorded in meeting minutes with a voice vote and roll-call recorded as unanimous (Aye from Jim Batson, Cara Benjamin, Don Carmichael, Cara Drumke, Lisa Hessel, Middleish Katwal and Sonal Kulkarni). The board indicated that the capital projects are part of the district’s planned summer and multiyear capital program and said costs will be included in the district’s budget and capital planning.
