Board scales back energy-efficiency package, asks for financing options that could include aquatic center work

After extended discussion about costs for upgrades, the Tunica County Board of Supervisors voted to select Option 3 of an energy-efficiency project with the option to add work at the county aquatic center. The board asked staff to analyze 15- and 20-year financing terms for the package.
Supervisor Dr. Willis said Option 4'previously approved at an earlier meeting'had carried an estimated project cost near $960,000 and asked the board to consider a smaller package with an add-on for the aquatic center to reduce near-term cost while preserving flexibility.
A motion to adopt Option 3 with authority to evaluate financing over 15- and 20-year terms was moved, seconded and approved. The board did not adopt specific financing terms at the meeting; staff will bring back analyses comparing the longer and shorter terms and the budget impacts of adding aquatic-center improvements.
Why it matters: energy-efficiency upgrades can reduce long-term operating costs for county facilities, but the board indicated that a full-scale option was costly and sought a more measured approach while retaining the option to add aquatic-center work pending financing review.
