County purchasing staff told the board that vehicles ordered on the state contract would take at least 90 days for delivery; dealers had 2024 models in stock priced lower than the 2025 contract vehicles. The board approved purchasing in-stock 2024 Ram 1500 crew-cab trucks to avoid protracted waits, with the motion made and passed by roll call.
Purchasing staff also reported on sheriff vehicle bids and recommended Enterprise for marked and unmarked fleet purchases because Enterprise offered guaranteed buybacks that reduce long-term lifecycle cost; the board authorized signing the Enterprise paperwork.
Separately, the sheriff told the board a 2013 county truck had been totaled in an accident and asked guidance on replacement. The fleet manager described a county F-350 that needs a new motor (quote approximately $20,000) and presented alternate quotes for replacement vehicles on state contract; the board asked the sheriff and staff to pursue insurance settlement for the totaled vehicle and to return with a budget amendment or warrant request to fund replacement if insurance proceeds are insufficient.
Board members approved a motion to advertise road parts procurement and several other vehicle-related motions by roll call. They also discussed temporarily reallocating administrative vehicles to cover immediate field needs while awaiting replacements.
