Blue Ridge Heating and Air wins Greer Moves $10,000 boot-camp grant for AirGuard mold-detection system

City leaders on Jan. 14 recognized the Greer Moves entrepreneurship platform and announced Blue Ridge Heating and Air's AirGuard as the most recent Greer Moves grant winner, a $10,000 award aimed at helping boot-camp graduates scale locally developed businesses.
"The city of Greer created the platform at Greer to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation here in the city of Greer," Economic Development Director Reno Deaton said, outlining that the program has run 15 boot camps and helped more than 80 companies in the community.
Philippe Barot, who leads the program's entrepreneurship core team, said the award program was created to provide financing pathways for promising ideas that emerge from the two-day boot camp. Barot described AirGuard as an in-house innovation from Blue Ridge Heating and Air: a sensor and cloud-algorithm system that detects mold-related conditions and reports data for building owners and service providers.
Program organizers said applicants are evaluated on three criteria: strength of customer need and solution, founder capability, and local commitment. Past recipients include a footwear company addressing foot ailments, a sensory subscription box for children, and an agricultural fertilizer innovation.
Council formally recognized the program and thanked sponsors that support the Greer Moves grants, including BMW, Michelin, County Bank and the Indigo Foundation.
