Charleston committee adds exigent real-estate items, approves leases and property closings

The City of Charleston Committee on Ways and Means on Jan. 28 added three exigent items to its agenda from the prior day’s Real Estate Committee and approved a group of real-estate and operational items including authorization to become an accommodation party to a mortgage for the Gibbs Museum of Art (to secure a Carolina Arts Association loan for the EB White Building), an extension of the lease and management agreement with Care Alliance Health Services (DBA Roper Saint Francis Healthcare) for the Lowcountry Senior Center through March 31, 2025, and a letter of intent with Fourth Line Capital Management to lease space at 200 Meeting Street to relocate staff currently housed at 75 Calhoun Street.

The committee also approved closing documents for 141 Meeting Street (the city and Gibbs Museum are acquiring that property), a proposed lease of 108 Meeting Street from the Historic Charleston Foundation for city office use, inclusion of Daniel Island–Cainhoy waste-collection services under the city’s contract with Trident Waste and Recycling LLC at a per-house rate of $15.61 per month, a Parks Department $10,000 grant acceptance, and a $100,000 Bloomberg Asphalt Art Grant application to fund art installations near the Lockwood Boulevard “Slip Lane.” The chair announced each motion carried by voice vote with “The ayes have it.”
