Committee approves two commercial and five residential annexations, mostly in West Ashley

Molly, a city staff member, told the committee that the first two are office/commercial annexations while the remaining five are standard single-family residential parcels in West Ashley. Staff said the new office properties were seeking the savings and benefits of being in the city and that the residential annexations would likely result in lower future property tax bills for those parcels.
Committee members took the first two office annexations together and then voted separately to take the five residential annexations together; both motions passed unanimously. Council members described the actions as filling ‘‘donut holes’’ in city boundaries and said staff would continue outreach where appropriate.
No controversies or unique uses were reported for the annexation parcels; staff characterized them as routine.
