Traffic commission finds intersection at Fowl Street and Garfield does not meet stop-warrant; crosswalk repainting ordered

The Woburn City Traffic Commission reviewed a request to add stop signs and traffic calming at the intersection of Fowl Street and Garfield Street but agreed with DPW that the intersection does not meet warrants for a full-way stop.
Staff reported that Superintendent Duran inspected the intersection and concluded “it does not meet the warrants to have a full way intersection, and to have any stop signs, erected at that site.” Commissioners noted faded crosswalk paint and agreed Public Works should repaint the crosswalks to match other streets. “Public works will repaint those crosswalks,” a commissioner said.
Commissioners also discussed nearby construction at a residence that DPW said is creating sight-line issues because contractors’ vans and commercial vehicles are parked along the roadway. That construction, staff said, is a contributing factor to the visibility concerns; the commission did not impose a stop sign but asked DPW to continue monitoring.
The commission ultimately moved to file the petition after confirming DPW would repaint crosswalks and review striping; the motion passed.
No new traffic-control devices were installed; the matter remains filed pending DPW follow-up.
