The Woburn City Council on Jan. 21 approved a special permit allowing Sri Ganraj LLC to operate a fast-food restaurant at 100 Sylvan Road (300 Trade Center, Suite 1410).
The council voted to allow the use under section 5.1 subsection 29 of the city zoning code and attached three conditions: hours of operation limited to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week; a staff review after six months; and a new condition added by the council that the special permit be nontransferable.
President Dillon opened the item and the council opened and closed a public hearing after no members of the public stepped forward. There were no substantive public comments recorded. The council then voted by roll call to grant the special permit with the three conditions; all members present voted in favor and the chair declared, “That passes.”
The conditions require city staff to reexamine the operation after six months and bar transfer of the permit without further council action, reflecting councilors’ interest in keeping oversight during the restaurant’s first months.
Minutes show the action moved through the committee process with an “ought to pass” recommendation prior to the council vote. The zoning provision cited for the application was section 5.1 subsection 29, the code item under which the special permit was filed.
The permit is effective as of the Jan. 21 vote; any enforcement, permit issuance or follow-up review will be handled through the city clerk and building department per usual procedure.
