Traffic commission asks DPW and engineering to contact owner over school signage at 288 Mishawam Road

The Woburn City Traffic Commission on July 16 placed on file a petition asking for school signage near 288 Mishawam Road and asked staff to have the Department of Public Works and engineering follow up with the property owner and city council.

Commissioners said the request relates to a construction project at the site and that engineering and DPW need to define mitigation and sign requirements before installation. “It probably should go back to the city council due to mitigation as well as engineering has to take and work with the owner of that property,” a staff member told the commission, citing conversations with Superintendent Duran and Engineer Corey.

The commission’s motion directed staff to send a communication to the engineering department and DPW to contact the owner responsible for the construction at 288 Mishawam so the owner can obtain exact sign requirements and proceed with purchase and installation once approved. The motion was seconded and passed.

Because the petitioner was not present at the meeting, commissioners did not take further testimony and left final technical direction to DPW and engineering. The commission did not adopt specific sign specifications at the meeting; staff said final sign type, wording and placement must come from engineering review and coordination with the owner.

The matter will remain on file while DPW and engineering engage the property owner and report back to the commission or the city council as appropriate.
