The committee deferred Senate Bill 367, a measure that would prohibit issuance of a certificate of inspection for mopeds or motor vehicles altered to increase noise above factory levels, after a lengthy hearing with numerous public comments.
Supporters such as Tradewinds Hotel and Citizens Against Noise urged stronger action on noise pollution. Opponents, including Moped Doctors and motorcycle‑industry representatives, said the bill would impose new burdens on vehicle and safety inspectors because current inspection programs do not uniformly include sound checks; they recommended deferring action and coordinating with agencies and related bills.
Committee members requested additional information and deferred SB 367 to the committee’s next decision-making date to allow further review and cross-checking with other bills addressing noise and inspection protocols.
