Resident urges Montgomery ISD to condemn Nazi salutes and hate speech at Montgomery High School

Jenny Drude of Montgomery told the school board during public comment that she has learned multiple students have been performing the Nazi salute at Montgomery High School and urged the district to make a public statement condemning hate.
Drude described past experiences she had as a senior when administrators would remove Confederate flags and symbols from student vehicles, and said recent incidents included harassment of supporters of the Democratic ticket and an assistant principal repeating political talking points. She said her family believes the Holocaust was "a terrible part of history" and that performing the Nazi salute is unacceptable. She quoted Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel: "Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. And silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." Drude asked the district to make clear that Nazism and hate will not be tolerated at Montgomery ISD.
The board heard the comment during the public comment period; the board did not take action or vote in response during the meeting.
