Ann Arbor oversight commission welcomes two new commissioners, Patricia Manley and Aaron Cooper

The Ann Arbor Independent Community Police Oversight Commission introduced two new members at its Jan. 28 meeting: Commissioner Patricia Manley and Commissioner Aaron Cooper.
Patricia Manley, identified in the meeting as Commissioner Manley, described herself as an Ann Arbor native who attended local schools (Jones Elementary, Tappan Junior/Middle, and what is now Pioneer High School). She said she worked for 41 years in the Ann Arbor Public Schools system, including about 31 years at Huron High School as a teacher, counselor and assistant principal, and 10 years as principal at Thurston Elementary School. Manley said she later served on the Ann Arbor school board for two years and is now retired from those roles.
Aaron Cooper introduced himself as Commissioner Aaron Cooper and said he is the executive director of Avalon Housing. He said he holds a criminal-justice degree from the University of Cincinnati and has about 16 years’ experience in affordable and public housing work in the Midwest. Cooper said he completed a Police Citizens Academy in Toledo, Ohio, in 2016 and expressed appreciation for the chance to serve on the commission.
Both commissioners were welcomed by Chair Carter and other members; no formal action or assignment resulted from the introductions, and both were invited to participate in committee assignments discussed later in the meeting.
