Committee members described a slate of outreach activities including a family-focused Earth Day event, rain-barrel sales and expanded social-media engagement.
Sharon Curry said the committee maintains an informational table at the farmers market and sells rain barrels "at cost" with the committee’s price described as competitive; she noted residents can receive a city credit for installing rain barrels and rain gardens. Curry announced an Earth Day family fun day on April 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial and encouraged families and children to attend.
Adrienne Reitz, a new committee member, said she will focus on social media and plans to use Instagram as a primary outreach tool for event updates, scholarship promotion and short educational content. "We're going to be promoting the cleanups... and special projects... and we'd like to share environmental tips," Reitz said, adding the committee will use stories, challenges and consistent posting schedules to grow engagement and involve schools.
Committee members asked residents to visit the farmers market table for information on stormwater programs and to contact the committee about youth and school partnerships for environmental projects.
