West Miami planning board to meet new zoning consultant as city begins code revamp

During the Jan. 29 meeting, City of West Miami planning staff briefed the Planning and Zoning Board that the city has hired a zoning consultant and plans to introduce the consultant at the next regular meeting. Staff said the city will be working to revamp the entire zoning code and implement a new comprehensive plan, and that board input will be sought throughout the process.
Board members asked whether there would be public workshops and whether the consultant is an individual or a firm; staff said the consultant is an individual who works for a firm and agreed to check on public engagement plans with the city manager. The board was told to expect more intensive work this year on code changes and that staff will seek the board’s input.
No formal policy was adopted at the Jan. 29 meeting; staff presented this as a status update and the board requested follow-up on public outreach plans.
