Planning board approves storefront sign for The Best Traffic School, orders window signage removed

The City of West Miami Planning and Zoning Board on Jan. 29 approved a sign permit for a new business, The Best Traffic School, at 5870 Southwest H Street Unit 1, allowing a 13.41-square-foot non-illuminated wall sign and a sign on the storefront door but denying additional signage proposed for the windows.
Applicant representative George Molina presented the proposal and asked to follow the hearing in Spanish; board members agreed. Staff said the total proposed signage (wall and windows and door) amounted to 39.52 square feet, under the allowed 64.35 square feet. Board members debated whether the window graphics — which included images emulating official traffic signs and instructional markings — would be compatible with the city’s signage approach; one board member cautioned against reproducing official-appearance traffic signs.
A motion approved the wall sign and door signage while removing the proposed window signage; the roll-call recorded a 4-1 result with Victoria Ganz voting no. Staff and the board discussed materials (PVC and individual letters) and compliance with the city’s sign code. The applicant was directed to conform the windows to the board’s condition.
