The El Dorado City Commission on Jan. 21 approved a resolution authorizing an amended wholesale water contract between the City of El Dorado and Butler Wholesale Water District No. 8.
City staff said the amendment changes the contract’s measurement from gallons per year to gallons per day so the city can align water sales with its daily treatment capacity. Staff noted that in prior agreements some districts contracted for volumes substantially above their projected usage; the amended contract reduces those volumes closer to observed use while including a built‑in flexibility provision allowing districts to exceed their allocation (the contract includes a 10% allowance above peak averages and can be amended to add supply).
The staff presentation said the previous contract expired in December 2023 and that the updated agreement functions as a four‑year extension with certain amendments; staff also said a longer underlying contract term exists and that additional amounts may be added via amendment if needed. Commissioners approved the resolution by voice vote after a motion and second.
A city staff member emphasized that, although the prior contract had expired, operations continued under the same service arrangements and the new action provides clearer written assurances for the next four years.
