County report: November unemployment 3.1% and single-family permits up about 25% year over year

Penny Postoak Ferguson, Johnson County manager, presented the County Economic Research Institute indicators during the board's Jan. 30 meeting, reporting November 2024 labor and housing statistics.
“In November 2024, the unemployment rate was 3.1% compared to 2% the previous year,” Postoak Ferguson said. She added that year-to-date single-family home sales were on par with the prior year and that single-family building permits issued through November represented about a 25% increase year over year.
Postoak Ferguson said the CRE report included November data and that the full report is included in the meeting packet. Commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the business session; staff noted the information will inform budget and planning discussions.
