The East Penn School District Board approved a new administrative compensation plan covering the next three years and accepted the retirements of six longtime district employees during its Jan. 13 meeting, district officials said.
Board members voted to approve the personnel items together by roll call. The motion passed with eight ayes.
Administrators said the board accepted retirements from six employees who together have provided 138 years of service to East Penn. "Those six individuals collectively have 138 years of service just in East Penn," Dr. Campbell said, thanking retirees by name. The retirees listed in the meeting record are Karen Kayati (teacher, Shoemaker Elementary; later noted as at Macungie Elementary), Heather Day (family and consumer science teacher, Emmaus High School), Deb Kaplan (special education teacher, Lincoln Elementary), Jason Palmer (special education teacher, Iyer/Eyer Middle School), Sue Sturkenberg (elementary teacher, Albertus Elementary) and Andrea Bray (staff assistant, Emmaus High School). The retirements are expected to take effect near the end of the school year unless otherwise specified in personnel records.
The board also approved the hiring of Kyle Fields as assistant director of facilities. Administrators said Fields will transition from a current maintenance/electrician position into the district’s facilities leadership team; the district plans to post the now‑vacant electrician position.
Board members also noted that the administrative compensation plan was the product of discussions between the board and the administrative team and said the agreement recognizes administrators’ service to the district.
No additional fiscal amounts or detailed salary figures were presented in the board’s verbal report. The personnel approvals appear in the meeting minutes as approved motions with unanimous roll call votes.
