Student representatives plan districtwide survey on cellphone policy

Olivia Wilson, a 10th grader and student representative, told the Milton School Committee that the district’s student advisory group will run a survey in early February on cellphone policy.
Olivia said the advisory group chose the topic because cellphones are widely debated among students, staff and parents, and existing rules differ between middle and high school. “We’re just trying to figure out for our system, for our situation, what’s the best move,” Olivia said. The survey will go to middle- and high-school students, staff and parents; the student advisory group plans to compare middle- and high-school responses and report results to the committee in coming meetings.
Olivia said the group’s timeline is to work during the end of the current marking term and distribute the survey in early February to ensure participation. The committee thanked Olivia and encouraged continued student involvement in district decisions.
