Hubbardston senior center reports $9,396 formula grant, accepts financial reports

The Town of Hubbardston Council on Aging accepted its minutes and financial reports and was notified that the senior center received the first half of a formula grant totaling $9,396.

At the meeting on Jan. 8, 2025, Secretary Mel Shaughnessy presented minutes from the Nov. 19, 2024, meeting. "Motion to accept," moved by Sue Brady and seconded by Ken Morbeth, was recorded and the motion passed unanimously, according to the minutes. Treasurer Ken Morbeth presented the treasurer's report dated Dec. 11, 2024; a motion to accept the report was moved by Mel Shaughnessy, seconded by Sue Brady and passed unanimously.

Claudia Provensel, director, told the board, "We have received the first half of our formula grant, $9,396." She also reported current account balances: supplies $671.83, services $145.46, gift account $7,144.81, formula grant account $9,396.61 and a GFA grant account $567.90.

The minutes record results from a seasonal fundraiser labeled the "Christmas bear," which brought in $3,047 in revenue and $1,189.09 in expenses; the transcript records a final composite figure of $18.53 as presented at the meeting.

The board discussed restrictions tied to a small portion of a cultural grant. Provensel said $17.90 of a GFA grant must be used for the newsletter; the remainder of those GFA funds may be used for the art program as permitted by the grant terms. Later in the meeting the board noted it had received a $750 award from the town cultural council to support the art class.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Sue Brady, seconded by Pat Lamoreaux; the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.

The board set the next regular meeting for Jan. 21, 2025, as reflected in the minutes.
