CHARLTON, Mass. — Town staff told the Board of Selectmen on Jan. 28 that the general-contractor bids for the planned fire station have been received and are under review with the project architect, with initial indications described in the meeting as "very favorable." Staff said they expect to present a contract to the project committee for recommendation after due diligence.
Staff also reported that the town is entering the budget season. The transcript records a staff member saying Gov. Maura Healey had released her budget and that town staff would meet with school officials shortly to finalize school budget requests; staff flagged insurance costs and school funding as likely major budget issues.
Separately, staff said the town will present a draft house-numbering policy to the board next month. The transcript notes the policy follows a bylaw change approved at the fall town meeting that authorizes the board to create a numbering schema, and that the policy would address assigning or changing house numbers for public safety or other reasons.
The board also reminded the public that its next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 11 and that the special town meeting will be Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Charlton Middle School.
