Finance committee OKs $15,000 to restore Senior Center parking-lot lighting

The finance committee on Jan. 14 approved a $15,000 transfer to repair exterior lighting at the Holyoke Senior Center.
DPW building maintenance staff Matt Peterson told the committee that many parking-lot fixtures were dim, flickering or not functioning. Peterson said the on-call city electrician quoted work to replace LED drivers (the component that converts 115-volt alternating current for LED fixtures), and that replacing the drivers is expected to restore most of the lights. The committee hear that a few lights function normally, some are dim or flicker, and several do not light at all.
Councilor Givner asked whether the lights fall under Holyoke Gas & Electric’s jurisdiction; Peterson clarified that the fixtures are powered from wiring inside the building and therefore require a licensed electrician rather than line crews from the municipal utility. The committee voted to approve the transfer to the heavy motor equipment operator account to pay for the electrician work and parts.
The chair asked Peterson to proceed and thanked him for the work.
