Inspectional Services reports high counts of exterior sanitation violations, reminds residents to clear sidewalks and control sump-pump discharges

Michael Wells, Revere’s health agent and director of inspectional services, presented the department’s activity report for the month.
In interior housing work the office issued 46 certificates of fitness, conducted 13 certificate-of-fitness reinspections, logged 21 interior-complaint inspections and 2 complaint reinspections. The food-inspection division performed 27 routine inspections, 7 reinspections, 3 complaint inspections and 1 pre-opening inspection.
Wells listed exterior-sanitation violations: 22 citations for accumulation of litter, trash, garbage and debris; 3 for "cots out in improper times"; 1 for commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods; 29 for overflowing dumpsters; 186 for improper placement of garbage, trash and bulky items; 8 for improper storage of garbage and trash; 1 for trunks/heaps/automobile graveyards; 1 for multiple unregistered vehicles on a property; and 34 snow, ice and sump-pump violations.
Wells urged property owners to clear sidewalks to leave space for strollers and wheelchairs and asked residents to ensure sump pumps are not discharging onto city sidewalks or streets because that can create ice buildup and a nuisance. "Please ensure that they're not discharging onto city sidewalks and streets, causing ice buildup and a nuisance," he said.
