Revere reports 307 influenza cases, 118 confirmed COVID-19 and one MPOX case in latest two-month summary

Lauren Buck, Revere’s director of public health, presented a two-month communicable-disease report to the Board of Health showing 307 influenza cases from Oct. 24, 2024, through the day before the meeting and 118 confirmed and 33 probable coronavirus cases.
"Our influenza number, from October 24, 2024 to yesterday was 307," Buck said, noting the figure reflects two months of data and that respiratory-illness season typically brings higher counts.
Buck also reported one MPOX case in the city in recent months and discussed the avian influenza H5N1 situation. "While the current risk of the public remains quite low, the CDC is watching the situation carefully and working with states to monitor people with animal exposure," she said, and noted H5N1 is causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows.
Buck reminded residents that Revere’s urban agriculture ordinance allows small backyard flocks with an up-to-date board of health license and advised poultry owners to take precautions to reduce the risk of transmission from wild birds.
