A staff member told the board: “As you recall, we already [removed] mechanical parking systems from the city's ordinance, but 90 days have passed, and the city council has not adopted that change. So we had to re advertise all over again. So we'll have another public hearing at the end of the month.” The board did not take a vote on the ordinance at the Jan. 28 meeting; staff indicated the re-advertisement will bring the matter back for another hearing.
Separately, staff described a proposed commercial parking garage behind the mortgage [address not specified] that would be a ramp system with roughly six levels and about 600 spaces. “No. Being No. This is this is a commercial parking garage that's being proposed behind for 600 vehicles,” a speaker said. Staff said some developers had inquired about mechanical elevator systems but noted such systems are costly and harder to maintain than a ramp.
No permits or formal approvals for the commercial garage were reported at the Jan. 28 meeting; the discussion was informational and focused on future review and public hearings.
