Norwood names Sam White permanent recreation director; Hawes pool work progressing toward June opening

White described recent and upcoming recreation activities, saying the department’s Nutcracker school dance showcase drew roughly 300 attendees, an intergenerational redecorating program drew about 30 participants, and the department partnered with Sunrise Senior Living for a “meet Santa” event.
White said weekend birthday bookings are full into the spring and that the department expects a full spring/summer program guide to be released soon with registration in late February. He also said the department will host its annual special‑someone dance and other staple events such as the Easter egg hunt, fishing derby and Arbor Day celebrations.
On facilities, White said Hawes pool contractor CDI is finishing the pump room and roofing and progressing to piping and deck work; the town’s plan is a June 18 grand opening (a half school day) with summer programs and swim lessons starting the week after.
Board members praised White and said they will coordinate with him on a Tyler J. Lawrence playground dedication and a rededication of the Horse Hill Veterans Memorial Park now that that work is largely complete.
