The City of Dawsonville Downtown Development Authority voted to approve a gamified downtown brochure program designed to drive foot traffic and spending at local businesses.
Amanda Edmonson, downtown development director, described a two‑part product: a printed brochure updated with new branding and businesses, and an online story map that lists downtown shops and attractions with embedded links. Edmonson explained the reward mechanic: customers visit participating businesses, spend at least $15 at a location and receive a sticker for their brochure; visitors who collect stickers from 15 businesses and meet the $15 per‑stop threshold may redeem the completed brochure at city hall for a downtown T‑shirt. Edmonson said the DDA’s direct cost per redeemed T‑shirt would be about $7 while generating an estimated $225 in downtown spending per completed brochure.
Board members asked about printing and sticker costs. Edmonson said the stickers would cost about $315 and that a 2,000‑copy print run of the brochure was planned; she said most participating businesses would provide a contribution to offset print costs. The board discussed duration ("while supplies last"), annual update cadence and distribution at city hall, stores and the welcome center; Edmonson said the digital story map makes the brochure searchable and allows seasonal or part‑time businesses to indicate limited hours.
A motion to approve the gamified brochure program passed; the transcript records the motion and a second but does not record a roll‑call tally. Board members also suggested adding promotional elements such as a front‑cover callout like "Win a free T‑shirt" and exploring a small coupon book as a future addition to the distribution package.
