Senate committee of the whole advances a package of bills including Wyoming PRIME Act, agritourism protections and an energy-impact study

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Senate''s committee of the whole reported a package of diverse bills favorably Thursday, advancing measures on agriculture, commerce, energy studies, trusts, water planning and other topics to the Senate floor for further consideration.

Highlights from the committee of the whole:

- Wyoming PRIME Act (Senate File 120): The bill, presented by Senator Salazar, would allow sale of meat processed at custom slaughterhouses to in-state consumers if federal law changes to permit such sales. Salazar described the bill as a "trigger" statute that would take effect only after Congress amends the Federal Meat Inspection Act; he said the bill includes consumer-notification requirements and limits commercial redistribution. The committee reported the bill favorably.

- Agritourism and recreation safety (Senate File 108): Senator Barlow explained that the bill would add agritourism (visitors participating in farm activities) to Wyoming's Recreation Safety Act''s list of activities that carry an assumption of risk. The committee reported the bill…
