Shelton School Board approves residency and transfer policies, certifies high school construction and grants finance authorities

The Shelton School Board approved two district policies, accepted final completion for two recent construction projects and passed three finance-resolutions at its regular meeting.
The board voted to adopt revised Policy 3140 (Student Residency) at its second reading and approved Policy 3131 (Transfers). Board members then passed Resolution 2502 certifying completion of Shelton High School additions and improvements and Oakland Bay Junior High improvements, which district staff said clears the projects for final closeout. The board also approved Resolutions 2503, 2504 and 2505 to authorize Clinton Sherman, the district's newly arrived executive director of finance, to manage accounts, to be designated as an auditing officer and to act as custodian of impressed and petty cash funds, respectively.
Board packets provided the text of the proposed policies and the resolutions. Tara Richardson presented the second reading of Policy 3140 and described it as covering enrollment and interdistrict “choice out” documentation. The board then took a motion to approve the policy as presented. Later in the agenda, Sherman told directors that NAC, the project's architect, notified the district the Shelton High and Oakland Bay projects were complete; approval of Resolution 2502, he said, “releases the rest of the project out” so closeout can proceed.
Clinton Sherman gave the board a monthly budget-status update during the meeting packet presentation. Sherman said November is a low-revenue month that contributed to a temporarily negative fund-balance trend the district is managing; he told the board the district’s goal is to return to a positive fund balance by year-end and that monthly updates will appear on future agendas.
All motions on the evening’s formal items were approved by voice vote after the board called for “Aye.” The approvals included the consent agenda, both policies and all four resolutions presented.
