Doña Ana County’s assessor’s office informed the Board of County Commissioners that House Bill 47 increases the veteran property tax exemption from $4,000 to $10,000 and establishes an additional exemption for veterans with disabilities, county communications staff said during the Jan. 28 meeting recap.
The county recap, read by Anita Skipper, said the dollar amount for the disability-related exemption “has yet to be determined.” The assessor’s office told the board it will continue to update the commission on how the changes will affect county valuations once implementation details are known.
The recap did not include the assessor’s name, the effective date of the change, nor a breakdown of valuation impacts or estimates of revenue effect to the county budget.
