Administration recommended an application process with a senior as the primary representative and a junior as the alternate, creating a two-year learning pathway. Board members supported giving interested juniors and seniors the chance to apply broadly (not limited to student government), adding a written application and, if needed, an interview panel including a board member and a high-school administrator.
The superintendent said the policy committee had reviewed sample policies from neighboring districts and recommended a draft policy that would designate the board president (or designee) and the high-school principal (or designee) to serve on any selection panels. The board asked that candidates be informed of time commitments and encouraged administrators to have applicants observe a regular board meeting before final selection.
No formal vote was taken; administration will draft a policy and bring it back for formal adoption.
