The board held three consecutive public hearings on proposed plans and specifications for 2025 roof replacement projects at West High School, Horn Elementary School and Wood Elementary School and closed each hearing after inviting public comment.
Vice President Abraham opened the first hearing, stating that the board had set the public-hearing date on Jan. 14, 2025, and that notice was published in the Iowa City Press-Citizen on Jan. 15, 2025. Abraham said the district will receive bids for the West High project at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2025, at the Facilities Management Conference Center, 1137 South Riverside Drive, Iowa City. "Now is the time and place for the public hearing on the proposed plans and specifications for the 2025 West High School roof replacement project," Abraham said.
The board then opened and closed a similar hearing for the 2025 Horn Elementary School roof replacement project; bids for Horn are due at 2:00 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2025. The final hearing covered the 2025 Wood Elementary School roof replacement project, with bids due at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2025. For each project, Abraham said notice to contractors was published "as required by law" in statewide plan rooms and on the Iowa City Community School District website on Jan. 15, 2025.
No public comment was recorded during the hearings, and the board moved on after closing each public hearing. No contract awards or bid openings were decided at the meeting; the board simply received and closed the hearings in advance of the Jan. 30 bid openings.
No board action was required at the Jan. 28 meeting beyond conducting the public hearings.
