Corte Madera recreation staff report new registration system and near-term openings for skatepark and pickleball courts

Jim Barry, a parks and recreation staff member, presented the commission with a yearly programming report that covered class enrollments, special events, facility work and new software.

Barry said the department launched a new registration management system and called it “such a game changer for us,” noting the old platform was being sunsetted and the new system holds users’ spots in a cart until checkout.

The presentation listed strong participation across youth and adult programs, record numbers for several events and growing use of childcare and after-school programs. Barry said staff is also continuing partnership work with local organizations including the Lions Club and the Cornwall Soccer/Football organization.

On facilities, staff reported that Town Park pickleball courts are “very close to opening” and the new skatepark installation is nearly complete and slated for a mid‑February grand opening pending final fencing and cosmetic work. New LED, dimmable lights were installed in the community center and staff said they have improved field maintenance for the East and West fields so fields remain playable year-round.

Commissioners and staff also noted upcoming events the department is planning for 2025, including a family “camp out” and a new “Royal Ball” on Feb. 7. The California Park and Recreation Society District 1 installation banquet will be held in Corte Madera on Feb. 22, where staff will recognize local volunteers and projects.

Staff asked commissioners for questions and reported continuing work on facility agreements, a field allocation policy, and enforcement/education responses for nuisance activity in the Pixley area.
