Finance Committee schedules Feb. 1 budget review, notes Feb. 3 public hearing on warrant

At its Jan. 28 meeting the Nantucket Finance Committee set Saturday, Feb. 1 for remote budget review sessions and confirmed a second public hearing on the town warrant for Monday, Feb. 3.

Denise, finance committee chair, said the Feb. 1 session will focus on budgets (not warrant articles) and asked members to check email for the agenda and links. Committee staff said most budget documents are available online, with solid-waste materials still pending; staff expected to post the missing solid-waste documents the following morning.

Libby, a staff member, said the warrant is posted on the town website and that she will begin assembling motions the committee has already voted on. She described plans to provide brief pre-article explanations at town meeting and to designate a point of contact for each town-called article so questioners have a single person to approach for clarifications.

Denise said she will work with staff to make article explanations concise and also offered to help town staff prepare brief overviews for town meeting, including a short presentation on the budget and long-term capital needs at the start of the meeting so voters can better understand future capital projects before discussing articles.

Committee members also confirmed the standing logistics: meetings will remain fully remote, agendas will list timing for department budgets (with DPW moved slightly earlier this cycle), and updated links will be emailed to members once the solid-waste packet is posted.

The committee adjourned following the scheduling items and reminders about upcoming meetings.
