Recreation and Parks staff gave several project updates Thursday: the 90‑foot baseball field at Chancellor's Run is finished, commissioners will take a Jan. 20 driving tour of the 3 Notch Trail, and staff seek concurrence to use existing state funds to install a low‑impact disc-golf course at Lancaster Park’s south parcel.
Staff said the Chancellor's Run baseball infield work is complete and the field will be ready for play this season. The department scheduled a driving tour of the 3 Notch Trail for county commissioners on Jan. 20 to review completed segments, gaps, encroachment issues and opportunities tied to future road projects; staff invited board members to join the afternoon tour.
On Lancaster Park, staff said state funding originally reserved for a perimeter pedestrian path can be used for a disc-golf course on the south parcel provided the state agency that placed a deed restriction on the property consents. Department staff estimated a modest budget for the project — roughly $10,000–$15,000 — and said the course would be low-impact (portable goals, use of existing roads and topography) and could be usable this spring if county concurrence is given.
Staff said the disc-golf proposal is intended to use funds already committed to Lancaster Park; no active ball fields or intensive construction would be part of the proposal because deed restrictions on the parcel limit active recreation uses. If commissioners and county administrator concur, staff plan to proceed with community engagement and implementation planning.
