St. Mary’s County moves ahead with first countywide tourism and hospitality master plan

Carolyn O'Rey, St. Mary's County tourism manager, told the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board on Feb. 4 that the county is developing its first comprehensive Tourism and Hospitality Master Plan to guide future development and projects.
The plan, O'Rey said, will provide a short-, medium- and long-term road map for tourism in St. Mary's County and includes a separate South County action plan intended to kick-start immediate work in that region. O'Rey said phase 1 (data gathering, surveys and focus groups) is nearly complete and that the county hopes to finish the full plan by the end of the fiscal year, though the timeline could slip because of the level of community engagement required.
