Council approves sidewalk-cafe permits, including temporary seasonal igloo at 30 East Choctaw

Staff said the first permit meets technical ordinance requirements and, once approved, will remain on the annual renewal cycle without requiring a full council review each year. The council approved the permit by motion; roll call recorded support from Councilor Gilmore, Councilor Boatwright, Councilor Woodley, Councilor Stone, Councilor Roden, Councilor Spady and the Mayor.
The second request was for a 12-foot by 12-foot round igloo to be placed on a removable wooden platform within a curb-side bump-out. Staff said departments had reviewed the installation, that irrigation and ADA compliance had been considered, and that the applicant provided liability insurance. The igloo would be temporary (seasonal: end of this month through April for the current year; then October through April in future years). Staff noted electrical and vegetation coordination would be handled administratively.
Councilor Bridal moved to approve the igloo permit; Councilor Roden seconded. Roll call recorded unanimous support from council members present and the motion carried.
Staff will finalize permit conditions to ensure ADA clearance and utility coordination before the igloo installation.
