Wendy Brandon, CEO of UCF Lake Nona Hospital, said the donation is part of a statewide initiative funded by HCA: "It is, a pleasure for us to come and present you with surprise, not 20,000 but a $60,000 grant," she said on the dais. Brandon said the statewide Consortium of Florida Education Foundations received a $1 million donation from HCA Healthcare Foundation in mid‑2024 to support nursing and allied‑health tracks, and that the new funds will support local medical‑academy offerings and career pathways.
Superintendent Dr. Monica Vasquez and board members thanked the foundation for the donation and noted the grant is timed to expand student access to industry‑aligned pathways amid a regional shortage of health‑care professionals. The district said funds will be used for programming and student preparation through medical academies; the Foundation and HCA will manage distribution and implementation details.
