Marshall City Council approves purchase of two Toro striping mowers for parks

The Marshall City Council on Tuesday approved the purchase of two Toro 35100 D striping mowers from MTI Distributing and declared two existing Toro 3500 D mowers surplus.
Preston Stendrews, a Parks Department staff member, told the council these machines were listed in the capital improvement plan (CIP) and had long lead times; the city had placed a verbal order in 2023 to secure the units once available. "These had really long lead times so we verbally ordered them on, 2023 knowing we weren't obligated to take them when they came in," Stendrews said.
Stendrews said the mowers are used daily during summer to maintain ball fields, mow at lower heights and stripe fields, and that the two existing machines are eight and nine years old. He said MTI, the state contract holder, offered to hold the 2023 state-contract price and allowed a $14,000 trade-in credit. Stendrews also reported that a John Deere equivalent priced from the state contract would be about $59,500 each.
Council member Jim moved to approve the purchase with the intent to sell the existing units on the open market rather than accept the trade-in; the motion was seconded (recorded as "Second" in the transcript) and passed. The council then proceeded to the consent agenda.
