Colorado Senate approves Jan. 22 journal, recesses until 10 a.m.; schedules joint committee hearings

The Colorado Senate approved the journal of Jan. 22, 2025, recessed its floor session until 10 a.m. and announced upcoming joint committee hearings and administrative deadlines during its morning proceedings.

The action began after the morning roll call established a quorum — "31 present, 0 absent, 4 excuse," recorded as the session opened. Senator Kipp moved that "the senate journal of January 22, 2025 be approved as corrected by the secretary." The presiding officer called for the ayes and, after the response, declared "the ayes have it, and the motion is adopted." The Senate then received several scheduling announcements and administrative reminders before the majority moved recess. The presiding officer recorded the motion to recess "until 10 AM today," called the vote and announced the ayes carried.

The announcements included scheduling for two joint committee hearings. "The joint state affairs committees will meet in old supreme court for our smart act," Senator Wiseman said, adding that the agenda "includes, rule 25, d presentation from the joint budget committee. We are hearing from the department of veterans and military affairs, the department of state, and we'll have public commentary on both of those departments." Senators and staff were asked to move promptly to the Old Supreme Court room when the Senate adjourned or recessed.

Separately, Senator Kolkher notified members that the Joint Education Smart Committee will meet in the old state library after adjournment, saying it will hear from the Joint Budget Committee, the Department of Higher Education, the Office of State Budget and Planning, school district financial officers, the Department of Education and early childhood representatives, and will include public testimony.

Administrative reminders from the chamber included a deadline for composite photos and distribution of statute updates. The chamber's majority leader said, "today is the last day to have your composite photo taken" and that updates to the "2024 revised statutes will be distributed this week." The leader directed members with questions to the front desk or to join the legal services committee for more detail.

Clerk announcements also noted floor paperwork: Senate staff announced that senate bills 66 through 76 were "correctly printed" and that senate joint resolution 4 was "correctly engrossed." During the session Senators Pelton R. and Roberts also made a brief floor appeal seeking donations for a junior livestock sale; Pelton said he had "wrote a check for $500."

The Senate recessed after the votes and scheduling announcements; members were instructed to proceed to the listed committee rooms for the scheduled hearings.
