Lycoming County board approves $30 poll‑worker pay increase funded by Act 88 grants

The Lycoming County Board of Elections approved a new pay schedule on Jan. 21 that raises poll‑worker compensation across the board and will take effect Jan. 1 of next year, elections staff said.
Under the proposal approved by the board, pay would rise by $30 across the roles staff listed: judges would increase from $200 to $230; other poll workers from $150 to $180; half‑day workers from $75 to $90; and training pay would increase from $40 to $50. Elections staff estimated the additional annual county cost at roughly $34,000 to cover both elections and required trainings for one year.
Staff told the board that these compensation expenses are eligible under the Election Integrity Grants (Act 88 of 2022), and that the county can claim the additional costs to the grant. "The poll workers always do the work where the rubber meets the road on election day. Showing them we value their time... is gratifying," elections staff said during the meeting.
The board voted to approve the pay schedule and staff said the change would not affect current year expenditures; the increase is scheduled to begin next year upon approval by the commissioners (staff will place the matter on the commissioners' agenda for final administrative action that crosses departmental approvals).
