Morton Grove honors neighbor Dave Ruber with Outstanding Neighbor recognition

The Village of Morton Grove on Jan. 28 presented Dave Ruber with the Community Relations Commission’s Outstanding Neighbor recognition for “going above and beyond” for his neighbors.
Teresa Poliak, chair of the Community Relations Commission, introduced the award and said the commission seeks to “foster, encourage, and stimulate the improvement of relations among and between residents” of Morton Grove. Poliak read the nomination submitted by Vivian Kabir, which described Ruber’s volunteer acts: blowing leaves, watering grass, snow‑plowing sidewalks, clearing snow from cars and helping neighbors with gatherings during the COVID pandemic.
Poliak presented Ruber with a village pin, a mug, a certificate and a Morton Grove restaurant gift card. Ruber thanked the board and neighbors and said, “I’ve always gone with the philosophy… it’s easy to be nice. It’s easy to smile.”
Poliak said the commission’s next meeting is March 17, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall and invited residents to apply for future recognitions.
