The Willows City Council established an ad hoc committee to interview applicants for the Planning Commission vacancy left when Commissioner Holly Meyer resigned effective Dec. 31, 2024.
City Manager Marty Brown reviewed the process in city code: the council appoints up to two members to an ad hoc committee to review applications, interview candidates and return a recommendation to the full council. Marty outlined a proposed schedule: advertise the vacancy January 31, accept applications between Feb. 3 and Feb. 14, conduct interviews after the deadline and bring a recommendation to the full council for appointment at the Feb. 25 council meeting.
Councilmembers Laurie and Evan volunteered and were designated to serve on the ad hoc committee by consensus. Councilmembers asked that staff post the vacancy broadly, including on city social media, to increase outreach. The council did not make a final Planning Commission appointment at the meeting; the ad hoc committee will return a recommendation after interviews.
