Board OKs $732,608 portable classrooms for Casa transition program and $1.998 million McKinley modular project

Trustees authorized a piggyback contract for four portable classrooms for the Casa Grande transition program and approved a nearly $2 million contract to add two permanent modular classrooms at McKinley Elementary.
Petaluma trustees on Jan. 28 approved two facilities contracts: a $732,607.92 agreement with Mobile Modular Management Corporation to supply four portable classrooms for the Casa Grande transition program and a $1,998,000 contract with JL Construction to manufacture and install two permanent modular classrooms at McKinley Elementary School.
The board authorized the Mobile Modular contract under the state “piggyback” procurement statute, allowing the district to use a contract procured by Santa Rita Union School District rather than run its own competitive bid. Amanda told trustees legal counsel had reviewed the piggyback and staff judged the pricing reasonable. "The school district did go through the full RFP process as confirmed by our legal firm," Amanda said.
Staff said the fourth portable is needed to accommodate toilets, a kitchen and laundry space as well as room for growth and small offices. The Mobile Modular agreement will be funded through district developer fees.
Trustees also approved the JL Construction agreement for McKinley, financed from the district’s elementary bond program. Amanda said JL Construction was the lowest responsive bidder and has worked on recent district modular projects. "We anticipate that the modulars will be done late summer, early fall," she said.
Both items passed on voice votes after brief trustee questions about procurement and funding sources.
