Council approves parks bids: accessible playground, tennis resurfacing and Newberg Church roof

The Livonia City Council approved three park-related contracts during the study meeting.

1) Kursky Recreation Center accessible playground: The council awarded a contract to ParkVision for $499,168.20 to install an ADA-accessible playground with turf surfacing, benches and perimeter fencing to improve safety near the Circle at the rec center. Parks staff said the project had previously secured Wayne County grant funds and that the additional items (benches, fencing) increased the cost from the project cap originally advertised. Council members asked about buffer boulders, sightlines and public-safety review; Parks staff confirmed the surfacing, transfer stations and component heights were ADA-compliant and that fencing would be added on the south side to help secure the play area.

2) Rotary Park tennis-court resurfacing: Council awarded a contract to Laser Sports Surfacing for $69,900 to repair cracks and resurface the Rotary Park tennis courts. Parks staff said the resurfacing extends the life of the court and is on a 5–7 year maintenance cycle.

3) Newberg Church roof replacement at Greenmeade Historical Park: The council awarded Cedar Preservation Systems the replacement job for $47,350 to restore the historic structure’s cedar roof. Parks staff said previous cedar roofs at the park have held up over decades and requested replacement-in-kind.

All three awards were approved on consent; Parks staff said additional design and timing details (renderings for the playground; pavilion design work at Greenmeade) would be provided during the design and construction phases.
