Fire chief reports training milestones and near‑seasonal run volumes

Fire Chief Thornton told council the department had completed 98 runs so far this year, which he said is in line with the typical average of about 100 runs a month.
Thornton reported personnel training milestones: a firefighter (Bridal Buckholz) completed EMT training and is now a licensed EMT; several staff have completed or are enrolled in Fire Instructor I and II training to meet new state requirements for live burn instructor coverage. The chief thanked Anarbor Township for hosting an emergency‑vehicle driving class (EVIS/VFIS) and said the burn building has been used for training.
Thornton also described RIT (rapid intervention team) training the department conducted, including drills on drags and harness extractions to simulate firefighter rescue scenarios. He said additional personnel will complete instructor training this year to meet the state’s updated requirements for live burns and on‑site instructor ratios.
