Downtown Development Authority Director Nate Mack told the council the South Lyon farmers market will include monthly food‑truck rallies on the second Saturday of each month this season, with dates set for May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, September 13 and October 11.
Mack said the DDA and planning commission held a joint meeting and approved unchanged vendor rates for the market season. The DDA board also approved a proposal from Wade Trim to update the DDA’s downtown plans; staff estimated the planning project will take about eight to ten months to complete.
Mack said downtown business and property owners met recently and one promoter is seeking to bring the Buy Michigan Now Festival to South Lyon on the first weekend of August. The event has run in Northville since about 2009 and has had as many as about 180 vendors there, Mack said; the promoter listed South Lyon and one other community as finalists. Mack told council the event organizers were a few thousand dollars short of sponsorships needed to commit and that the DDA is working to secure funding and local support.
Council member Bogart asked about vendor counts for the market; Mack said applications were still being finalized but expected vendor levels similar to last year. Council member Hanson asked about the Main Street County–hosted burger competition; Mack said two downtown participants (the South Lyon Hotel and Duvivino) had committed and that the contest is limited to restaurants within the DDA district.
Mack invited council questions and said staff would continue outreach to finalize participants and sponsorships.
