The Augusta–Richmond County Commission unanimously approved an administration proposal to adopt a 90‑day hiring strategy for filling executive positions, city staff said.
Human Resources presented an approach the administrator said was designed to work with existing procedures while delivering faster market analyses, job descriptions, candidate screening and recommended outreach. The administration emphasized the proposal would give commissioners more visibility earlier in the recruitment process — for example on job descriptions and candidate outreach plans — and could be executed using internal recruiting or outside search firms, depending on the position.
HR told the commission it would use existing professional networks, national organizations and partners (ICMA, SHRM and local/national recruiting resources) to broaden candidate pools. The administration also proposed a timeline for deliverables and said the HR office would be accountable for meeting the schedule so candidate pools could be presented to the administrator and commissioners within the 90‑day framework.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about whether the recommendation required a formal motion and how the strategy would interact with department head responsibilities. After discussion a commissioner moved to allow HR and the administrator to proceed with the initiative; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The approved direction is informational and authorizes HR to implement the proposed workflow for upcoming executive searches; commissioners asked staff to return with implementation details and progress reports under the new timeline.
