Washington County Planning Commission chair to step down; staff and candidate appointments noted

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Deborah Lockwood, chair of the Washington County Planning Commission, presided over her last commission meeting on Jan. 15, saying she is term‑limited and the sitting commissioners and staff thanked her for her service.
At the start of the meeting, Erin Wardell, assistant director with the county Department of Land Use and Transportation, reported personnel changes and appointments affecting the commission. Wardell said Lockwood is term‑limited and this will be her final Planning Commission meeting; she also said commissioner Joe Kiser plans to resign his seat due to personal commitments. Wardell said county legal representative Rob Bovette will leave Washington County in about a month for a position in Lane County and that she is stepping into a new role and that Carol (last name not specified) will take delegated authority as director for future Planning Commission meetings.
Wardell told the commission the county expects the Board of Commissioners to appoint two new planning commissioners who live outside the urban growth boundary; staff said the expected candidates are Naina Carlson (District 3) and James Just (District 4). If appointments proceed as expected the new commissioners would join the Planning Commission for the meeting beginning Feb. 5. Wardell also noted that the commission will need to hold an internal election for chair and vice chair at an upcoming February meeting (either Feb. 5 or Feb. 19, date to be set by the commission).
Vice Chair Maureen Beadon offered remarks of appreciation to Lockwood, thanking her for leadership and service during her tenure. Lockwood closed the meeting with brief comments thanking fellow commissioners for their courtesy and dedication; the commission adjourned at the end of the agenda.
Ending: No formal personnel appointments were made during the Jan. 15 Planning Commission meeting; the board of commissioners was reported to be scheduled to consider planning‑commission appointments in late January and the commission will elect a new chair and vice chair at a February meeting.
