Committee authorizes purchase of furnishings, fixtures and equipment for joint-use operations facility

The committee voted to forward staffs request to authorize purchases of furnishings, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) for the citys joint-use operations and maintenance facility. Staff said construction is progressing and the requested purchases include contractor-installed hardwired equipment, long-lead items and IT and security systems necessary for the facility to become operational.

Project staff (EJ and Parks director Hutton joined for questions) told the committee the authorization covers roughly $1.1 million in equipment out of a previously approved $2.2 million FF&E budget. Items include security cameras and related server/backbone equipment (Avigilon system and Wi-Fi backbone), brine tanks and loading ramps, welding and carpentry shop hardwired equipment and filtration, storage cabinets with long lead times, vehicle lifts for fleet maintenance, oil change equipment and other fleet tools, and site signage and operational markings.

Staff said buying major equipment through city purchasing contracts or state/federal pricing reduces cost and preserves warranty continuity versus contractor markup; many items are required contractually for the contractor to install. Committee members asked about on-site security, camera integration with Safe City and police access, reuse of existing furniture, and timing for office furniture procurement; staff said the security cameras will integrate with the city's Safe City/Avigilon monitoring system and that office furniture procurement would likely return to committee in February for authorization.

Motion and referral: a motion to forward authorization to acquire the FF&E equipment for the joint-use facility to the Feb. 4, 2025 consent agenda carried in committee.
